Nicki Henry Signs To Play Golf At EKU

RICHMOND, Ky. – Nicki Henry of Chagrin Falls, Ohio has signed a National Letter of Intent to play women’s golf at Eastern Kentucky University, head coach Mike Whitson announced today. Henry earned all-state honors each of the past two seasons and entered her senior year at Kenston High School with a 3.81 grade-point-average.

“Nicki will come into EKU next year with a tremendous amount of experience and success at the junior golf level,” said head coach Mike Whitson. “She also has a lot of AJGA experience. Her love of the game, attitude and work ethic will lead to a great career here at Eastern.”

Henry finished fifth this fall at the OHSAA Division I state tournament on her way to earning first team all-state recognition. She finished 10th as a junior and earned second team all-state honors. She captured medalist honors at the 2009 district tournament and earned the individual title at the sectional tournament three straight years.

Henry earned first team all-conference recognition four times and was named the conference MVP in 2009 and 2010. She was a three-time team captain and three-time team MVP. Henry set school records for lowest 18-hole score (67) and lowest 9-hole score (36).

She was selected by the Cleveland Plain Dealer as the Player of the Year in 2009. The News-Herald chose Henry as the girl’s golf Player of the Decade.

Henry captured the individual title at the North Coast Junior Tour Jim Dawson Match Play Championship in 2006 and 2009.

Kenston High School selected Henry as the Student of the Month in March 2008 and February 2010. She was chosen as the Kenston High School Academic Athlete of the Year in 2008. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the Kenston High School jazz band.

The Colonels have concluded the fall portion of their 2010-11 schedule. Eastern will return to action on Feb. 28 at the Islander Classic in Corpus Christi, Texas.
