Caldwell Selected as a Top 10 FCS Special Teams Player

Senior defensive back Jeremy Caldwell
RICHMOND, Ky. – Senior EKU football player Jeremy Caldwell was recently named as one of the top 10 FCS (Football Championship Subdivision) special teams players by The Sports Network. The defensive back is expected to return both kicks and punts this fall.

Below is The Sports Network’s assessment of Caldwell:

Jeremy Caldwell, Eastern Kentucky, KR/PR, Sr., 5-10, 183 – A two-time All-Ohio Valley Conference first-team cornerback who had seven interceptions as a sophomore in 2009, Caldwell also is lights out on kickoff and punt returns. Last season, Caldwell was second to Delaware State’s Larrone Moore with a 33.7-yard kickoff return average, including two returns for touchdowns, and averaged 15 yards on 13 punt returns (which would have ranked fifth nationally if he had one more return), with one touchdown. He is explosive once he gets the ball in his hands.

The other players to make the list were: Shawn Abuhoff (Dartmouth, PR), Carlos Anderson (Northern Iowa, KR), Zach Brown (Portland State, PK), Gralyn Crawford (Stephen F. Austin, KR), Jason Cunningham (Montana State, PK), Dontrell Johnson (Murray State, PR), David Harrington (Idaho State, P), and Tavoy Moore (Idaho State, KR/PR).

Caldwell and the rest of the Colonels open the 2011 schedule at Kansas State on Sept. 3. This will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
