RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University football team completed preseason practice #7 Tuesday morning at Roy Kidd Stadium. The players practiced in helmets only after two consecutive practices in pads on Saturday and Monday.
Below are some news and notes from the practice field:
--There is plenty of competition at the field goal kicker position between
Austin Delpont and
Luke Pray. Tuesday’s practice concluded with a successful field goal drill that forced the coaching staff to do 10 up-and-downs.
--Much of Tuesday’s focus was spent on special teams drills. Punter
Jordan Berry looks just as good as last year as he absolutely boomed a few punts with the wind at his back.
--The offense took on the defense in a seven-on-seven drill. Quarterback #T.J. Pryor
connected with wide receiver PJ Stone
for a beautiful long pass down the left sidelines. Tight end Matt Lengel# caught one pass on a crossing pattern and proceeded to turn the ball upfield for a significant gain.
--The football team will hold its first scrimmage on Saturday morning beginning around 7:45 a.m. Here are a few other dates to put on the calendar: Thursday, Aug. 25 will be the annual Colonel Club Fish Fry at 6 p.m. Meet the Colonels night will be on Saturday, Aug. 27 at 6:30 p.m. Both events will be held at Roy Kidd Stadium.
EKU opens the 2011 season on Saturday, Sept. 3 at Kansas State. The Colonels’ home opener is scheduled for Sept. 10 against Missouri State at 6 p.m.
