RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University sophomore football player
Ichiro Vance was recently selected as a College Sporting News (CSN) National All-Star for his performance in EKU’s 28-24 win over Missouri State on Sept. 10. Vance was one of five players throughout the entire Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) to earn this prestigious weekly honor.
Vance, a native of LaGrange, Ky., came through with a career-high 19 tackles, two tackles for loss and a forced fumble against the Bears. The 19 tackles were the most by an Eastern player since 1996 when Bob Head tallied 21 tackles against Eastern Illinois.
The linebacker forced a fumble in the second quarter that was recovered by the Colonels and set up their second touchdown to make the score, 14-0. Vance currently ranks fifth nationally with 13 tackles per game through two contests.
The other weekly all-stars were Central Arkansas quarterback Nathan Dick, South Carolina State defensive back Dominique Ellis, New Hampshire wide receiver/kick returner Joey Orlando and Montana wide receiver/kick returner Jabin Sambrano.
This was the second consecutive week an EKU player was selected for this weekly honor. Senior defensive back
Patrick McClellan earned the nod following the Kansas State contest.
Eastern Kentucky is back in action this Saturday, Sept. 17, at Roy Kidd Stadium against No. 14 Chattanooga. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
