BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – After helping the Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team to its best start in 66 years,
Glenn Cosey was chosen as the adidas Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week on Monday, the league announced from its Brentwood, Tenn., headquarters.
This is the second time this season the 6-foot guard from Flint, Mich., has received the award.
The Colonels beat Delaware State 84-51 on Wednesday to move to 6-0, their best start in 66 years. EKU made it 7-0 on Saturday with a 72-70 win over Western Carolina.
Cosey had a game-high 21 points, five assists and four steals against Delaware State. He made 4-of-7 three-point attempts in the win.
Against Western Carolina, the junior led the team with 15 points to go along with four rebounds and two assists. He keyed a comeback from 10 points down with 6:38 left in the game. Cosey’s lay-up tied the score with 1:15 to go and his jumper with 27 seconds left gave Eastern its first lead in over 31 minutes.
In both games combined, Cosey averaged 18 points, 3.5 assists, two rebounds and two steals per game. He made 50 percent of his shots from the field, including 54 percent (7-for-13) from three-point range.
For the season, Cosey is tied for third in the OVC in scoring (17.9 ppg), first in assists-to-turnover ratio (3.1) sixth in three-point field goal percentage (47.5 percent), tied for sixth in steals (1.8 spg), ninth in field goal percentage (53.7 percent), 12th in assists (3.1 apg) and tied for 13th in free throw percentage (78.3 percent).
After playing seven straight games at home to start the season, the Colonels will be on the road for the first time Tuesday at North Carolina Central University in Durham. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
