RICHMOND, Ky.
– One of the largest crowds in recent memory descended upon Roy Kidd Stadium Saturday evening for the annual Colonel Football Fan Day, just one week before Eastern Kentucky University opens the 2012 football season at Purdue.

This year's Fan Day activities had a new wrinkle as a kid's football and cheerleading clinic was offered before the annual meet-and-greet with the Colonel football players. The senior class along with the coaches shuttled future football stars between numerous stations featuring running, throwing, catching, blocking and tackling. Meanwhile, the EKU cheerleaders shared their talents with numerous youngsters interested in cheering on the Colonels.

At the conclusion of the clinic, EKU head head Dean Hood gathered the group of kids at midfield to discuss one of the main core values of the Colonel football squad, telling the truth.

Colonel supporters of all ages then walked the sidelines to receive autographs from this year’s team. Attractive team posters and schedule magnets were given to everyone who attended. Chick-Fil-A, a proud sponsor of the event, had plenty of promotional giveaways including chicken strips, fruit cups, chocolate chip cookies and sweet tea.

EKU kicks off the 2012 schedule on Sept. 1 at Purdue. The season opener will be televised by the Big Ten Network beginning at 3:30 p.m. The Colonels’ home opener is scheduled for Sept. 8 against Morehead State at 6 p.m. Fans can reserve 2012 season tickets by contacting the EKU athletics ticket office at 859-622-2122.
