David T.

David T. Green was named Director of Sports Medicine on May 30, 2008.

Green, who previously served as the head athletic trainer and Director of Student Therapy Center and Golden Eagles Sports Medicine at Tennessee Tech University, has more than 30 years of experience in athletic training.

“We are extremely fortunate to have David Green join our staff,” EKU Director of Athletics Mark Sandy said. “His experience and expertise will make him a valuable member of our department as we continue to improve the sports medicine service to our student-athletes.”

Green earned his master’s degree in health education from EKU in 1977. He then went on to serve five years as an assistant professor and assistant athletic trainer under Dr. Bobby Barton at Eastern from 1980-85.

For 23 years, Green was the head athletic trainer at Tennessee Tech. A member of several national and state athletic trainers’ associations, Green is currently serving on the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) Honors and Awards Committee. He was co-host to the 10,000 in attendance at the 2003 NATA national meeting and clinical symposium in Nashville.

Green also served as the president of the Tennessee Athletic Trainers’ Society (TATS) from 1998-02 and volunteered as an athletic trainer at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, working in the main athletic training room at the Olympic Village.

Green was inducted into the Southeast Athletic Trainers’ Association (SEATA) Hall of Fame in 2008, coming on the heels of earning NATA’s Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer in 2003 and being inducted into TATS’ Hall of Fame that same year. In 1996, he received a NATA National Service Award, and was named 1994 Tennessee’s Athletic Trainer of the Year by TATS.

Green graduated from Middle Tennessee State in 1975 with a bachelor’s degree in health, physical education and recreation. After earning his master’s degree from Eastern Kentucky, Green spent three years as a teacher and the athletic trainer at Paul Blazer High School in Ashland, Ky.

Green and his wife, Brenda – who is also an EKU alumnus, have two daughters, Danielle and Kaycee.
