EKU Soccer Takes Down No. 4 Seed North Florida in ASUN Quarterfinals

EKU's First 11-Win Season Since 2017

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The No. 5 seeded EKU women's soccer team defeats No. 4 seed North Florida in the 2024 Atlantic Sun Conference Women's Soccer Tournament by a score of 1-0 on Sunday night at Hodges Stadium off an early goal by senior forward Gretta Gunn.

With the win, EKU (11-7-3, 7-3-1 ASUN) advances to the ASUN semifinals for the third time in four seasons as a member of the conference to face No. 1 seed FGCU on the road next Thursday.

Gunn, a senior forward from West Chester, Ohio, scored the game-winning goal in the 23rd minute taking advantage of a lapse in the UNF defensive line.  EKU totaled three shots in Sunday's match, two of those on target by Gunn and fellow senior forward Tiatianna Jones.

EKU goalkeeper Marah Krick earned high honors in Sunday's match totaling her sixth clean sheet of the season with seven saves on 18 shots faced.  Krick's seven saves on Sunday ties her second highest total of the season for the third time this year.

North Florida and EKU played a tactical match in the first half that was interrupted by Gunn's goal in the 23rd minute to give the Colonels the advantage.  The Ospreys logged seven shots in the final 22 minutes of the half – three of which were saved by Krick.

The two teams played a physical next 45 minutes of play resulting in 11 shot attempts, four corner kicks, and 14 fouls.  EKU withstood North Florida's attacking formations to hold onto the 1-0 result and advance in the conference tournament.

EKU's Paula Herranz and Chiara Premoli were awarded assists on Gunn's goal in the first half, their fourth and sixth of the season, respectively.  UNF ended Sunday's contest with the advantage in shots (18-3), shots on goal (7-2), and corner kicks (8-0).

The Colonels will have a few days to rest up and prepare to face top-seeded FGCU in the semifinals on Thursday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. EST in Fort Myers.  Tickets for next week's semifinals matchup are now available for purchase online here.  The match can be viewed live on ESPN+ for those unable to attend.
