BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Seniors Jason McLeish and Matt Witt helped the Eastern Kentucky men’s basketball team post its second consecutive winning conference record this year and were awarded All-Ohio Valley Conference honors for their efforts as announced today by the league office. Voting was handled by the conference’s head coaches and sports information directors.
McLeish, a 6-0 guard from Queens, N.Y., was named first team All-OVC after increasing his point production nine points a game in 2005-06. He finished the regular season shooting a league-high 50 percent from behind the three-point line and ranked fourth in scoring at 18.2 ppg. He reached the 20-point plateau 11 times as a senior including a personal-best 29 tallies in Eastern’s win over Tennessee Tech on Jan. 5. On the defensive side of the court, McLeish led the team with 43 steals.
Witt, a 6-0 guard from Tipp City, Ohio, was named to the All-OVC second team. He concluded his Colonel career with 109 starts and leaves EKU as the program’s all-time leader in points (1,832) and three-pointers made (283) while ranking second in assists (630). Against Samford on Feb. 14, Witt notched a career-high 33 points, equaled the school record in three-pointers made in a game (seven) and moved into first place on the program’s all-time scoring list.
