2010 Schedule
RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky announced its 2010 softball schedule on Wednesday. The Colonels will play 20 home games, including a doubleheader against Western Kentucky University on March 17 and a single game against the University of Kentucky on April 21.
EKU will begin its 2010 schedule at the Campus Suites Spartan Classic hosted by the University of South Carolina Upstate in Spartanburg, S.C. Eastern will face Liberty on Feb. 19. The next day, the Colonels will take on Maryland-Baltimore County and USC Upstate. The event ends on Feb. 21 with championship and consolation games.
A week later Eastern Kentucky will return to the Palmetto State to participate in the Kickin’ Chicken Classic hosted by Coastal Carolina in Conway, S.C. EKU will play Jacksonville twice, Canisius, Coastal Carolina and DePaul.
The first weekend of March brings a trip to Nashville to play in an event at Lipscomb. The Colonels will take on Evansville twice, Lipscomb and Murray State. The Racers will be playing softball for the first time this season. The game in Nashville will be a non-conference tilt, but Murray State will visit Richmond at the end of April for an Ohio Valley Conference series.
During Spring Break, the Colonels will make their way back to South Carolina for a third time. Doubleheaders along the way against North Carolina A&T and Elon will precede three games at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, S.C.
After facing the Hilltoppers on March 17, Eastern will play its first conference series of the season three days later at Tennessee-Martin. The first home conference series will take place on March 27-28 against Southeast Missouri State.
Other home conference series in 2010 include Tennessee State (April 2-3), Morehead State (April 14), Murray State (April 24-25) and Austin Peay (May 8-9). The Colonels will play non-conference home games against Dayton and Miami (Ohio) during the second half of the season.
The Ohio Valley Conference tournament will be held on May 13-15 at the home of the regular season champion.
Jane Worthington, beginning her 18th season as the Colonels’ head coach, welcomes back five position starters, her starting designated player and two starting pitchers. Eight newcomers will join the program this season.
