Women's Golf Finishes Fifth At Pinehurst

April Emerson led EKU and tied for 13th overall.

PINEHURST, N.C. –
Eastern Kentucky University’s women’s golf team dropped back one spot to finish fifth after the final round of the 2009 Pinehurst Challenge today.

EKU’s final round 305 wasn’t good enough to hold off Wichita State. The Shockers fired a final round 300 to move to fourth with a two-round total of 607. The Colonels finished two shots back with a final score of 609.

The College of Charleston (584) won by eight strokes over Western Carolina (592). Morehead State (603) placed third. Winthrop (613) finished four shots behind Eastern Kentucky in sixth.

April Emerson led EKU and tied for 13th overall with a 36-hole total of 149. Lisanne Schmidt (153) carded the best final round for Eastern, a two-over 74. She moved into a tie for 25th. Linda Hogberg (155) and Katie Wiedmar (155) tied for 28th.

The 36-hole 2009 Pinehurst Challenge was contested at Pinehurst No. 6, a par-72, 5,994-yard course.

The Colonels have concluded the fall portion of their 2009-10 schedule. Eastern will be back in action on March 11-12 when the program hosts the EKU El Diablo Intercollegiate in Citrus Springs, Fla.
