MOREHEAD, Ky.
 – Three Eastern Kentucky University women’s soccer players received All-OVC recognition Wednesday night at the league’s postseason awards banquet. Junior midfielder Ashley Green and junior goalkeeper Stephanie Lynch were named second team All-OVC while freshman midfielder Alex Hess was named to the OVC All-Newcomer Team.

Until now, Green had received little recognition for a career that, after just three years, has been nothing short of impressive. The Loveland, Ohio native has started every game since her freshman season and her five career assists is a program record. This season, she is second on the team in minutes played (1,575) and assists (two). Both of her assists came off corner kicks and one of them set up the game-winning goal against conference foe Jacksonville State on Oct. 4.

In a display of versatility, Green even played 21 minutes of goalkeeper this season and did not allow a goal.

The Colonels’ starting goalkeeper, Lynch, has now been named second team All-OVC for the second consecutive season. She is the first player in program history to be named All-OVC in consecutive years. This season, Lynch recorded seven shutouts (five of them in conference play) and allowed only five goals in eight OVC games. Her 0.59 goals against average during league play led the OVC. The Goshen, Ky. native was named OVC Goalkeeper of the Week twice in 2009 and has now been bestowed with that an honor an EKU-record five times in her distinguished career.

In just her first season at EKU, Hess started all 18 games and was fifth on the team in minutes played (1,354) and second in shots on goal (12). The Overland Park, Kan. native scored her only goal of the season in a 2-1 in over Winthrop at home. She becomes the fifth Colonel to be named to the OVC All-Newcomer Team, joining Janine Davie (2005), Georgia Koromelas (2006), Carly Muller (2007) and Heather Bruce (2008).

Green, Lynch, Hess and the rest of the Colonels will take on Murray State in the first round of the OVC Tournament Thursday night at 8:00 p.m.
