Happy Holidays
RICHMOND, Ky. - During this holiday season, the captains of the Eastern Kentucky University women's soccer team - seniors Jessica Goshert and Maddy Shumaker and junior Alex Raich - have written a letter of thanks to all of the people who make their experiences as student-athletes special.

The letter is as follows:

With our season ending not long ago, we felt it was important to give thanks to the people who made our season and program possible. We appreciate everything that all of you do for this program and we are truly blessed to have you all as a part of the EKU soccer family.

Mark Sandy, Athletic Director, who has established a tradition of athletic excellence at Eastern Kentucky that we are proud to be a part of.

Corey Bray, Assistant Athletics Director of Administration, who takes time away from his family to attend every home game and who works so closely with the coaching staff.

Simon Gray, Associate Athletics Director for Advancement, who keeps the athletic department running smoothly. Thank you for all of your support throughout the season.

Dan McBride, Assistant Athletics Director for Operations, who plays an essential role in overlooking the maintenance and care of our field.

Lynn Tyler, Administrative Assistant, who works with the coaching staff to distribute the scholarships that allow many of us to be here.

Kara Kovert, Director of Athletic Marketing and Corporate Partnerships, who works tirelessly to promote our program. The events you plan and things you do are so important to us and to this program.

Steve Fohl, Assistant Director of Athletic Public Relations, who takes the time to attend every home game, to set up and announce at games, and to write game summaries about every game this season.

Chris Radcliffe, Photographer, who helped to create our awesome poster and who takes numerous photographs of the team in action.

Coach Chad Scott and the assistant strength and conditioning coaches, who spend numerous hours inside and outside of the weight room pushing us past our limits in a competitive, yet fun, atmosphere. We would not have been able to accomplish nearly as much without your commitment, motivation, and support.

Randy Kennedy, Director of Student-Athlete Academic Services, who makes academics a priority and has taught us the definition of a true Student-Athlete.

Jenna Sample, Athletic Academic Counselor, who spent countless hours putting together the Colonel Challenge, SAA, and other Student-Athlete Activities. We appreciate all you’ve done to unite Eastern Kentucky athletes.

Jennifer Parsons, Athletic Academic Counselor, and the Bratzke Center staff, who are always there to guide us through our academic journey and have been integral in our success in the classroom.

Our EKU professors, who are patient and cooperative in dealing with the demand of athletics while helping us to be the best students we can in the classroom.

Sarah Jordan, Athletic Trainer, who is dedicated to the health and success of each individual and who takes countless hours away from her friends, family, and other commitments to be at every practice, fitness, game, away trip, and even “Midnight Madness”.

Chelsey Saylers, Team Manager, who takes care of the little things so that the players and coaching staff ccan focus on the big picture. Thank you for videotaping, doing our laundry, taking care of our equipment, setting up practices, and all the other things behind the scenes. Your commitment to our team is greatly appreciated.

Roy Conner, Field Maintenance and Facilities, who puts much time and effort into the care and upkeep of our field and locker room. We pride ourselves in having one of the best soccer facilities in our conference and without you this would not be possible.

Bob Miller, Bus Driver, who not only provides transportation, but more importantly provides us with support, encouragement, and even a little entertainment away from home.

Donna, “Super Fan”, who believed in us even when we had lost faith in ourselves. Donna made it to almost every home game and even traveled to Morehead State for the OVC Tournament. We appreciate your encouraging words during and after games more than you know.

All the local youth that served as ball kids throughout the season and their parents, who saved us a little time and energy by retrieving balls during the games. Our games would not run as smoothly without you.

J.D. who graciously prepares delicious food for our fans to enjoy during games.

Friends of EKU Soccer, who help support us financially and made many things possible.

Everyone who came out to a game this year, thank you for your support.

The Alumni, who made this program what it is today. We thank you for building a program that we can be proud of. We fight for you everyday.

Our parents, without you none of this would be possible. We appreciate every game you’ve attended, every mile you’ve driven, all the events you’ve planned, and each word of encouragement. Your love and support means more than words can describe.

Lastly, our coaches and their families, who have dedicated their lives to the success of each individual and the program as a whole. The hard work that both of you put in every minute of every day has made us the players and people that we are today. The time and effort you put in to planning events and away trips does not go unnoticed.
