RICHMOND, Ky.
– The Eastern Kentucky University baseball team will travel to Miami University tomorrow to take on the RedHawks at Hayden Park in midweek non-conference action. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. EST.

EKU holds a slight advantage in the all-time series between the two schools, 10-9. The Colonels defeated the RedHawks, 9-6, at Turkey Hughes Field earlier in this season. Sophomore Matt Fyffe picked up the win in that game while Junior Joey Stevens led EKU at the plate with three RBI.

Fyffe will get a chance to pick up two wins over the RedHawks in one season as the right-hander is scheduled to start on the hill for the Colonels on Wednesday. The Paintsville native is 3-4 this season with a 7.68 ERA. He also leads the Colonel staff with 41 punch outs.

The Colonels (21-19, 7-10 OVC) snapped an eight-game conference losing streak on Sunday, roughing up preseason All-American Ben Tootle and the Jacksonville State Gamecocks, 9-3.

EKU currently sits in seventh place in the OVC, a half a game behind Tennessee Tech and a full game behind Morehead State. The top six teams in the conference at the end of the season make the OVC Tournament.

Despite dropping 11 of their last 14 games, the Colonels have continued to thrive at the plate. As a team, EKU is hitting just below .350 and averaging nearly 10 runs per game.

Senior Matt Davis is second in the OVC with a .452 batting average and he leads the country with 1.70 runs scored per game. The speedy centerfielder is also tops in the OVC with 17 doubles and 19 stolen bases.

Sophomore Jayson Langfels is right behind Davis with a .450 batting average, good enough for third in the conference. The third-baseman leads the OVC with six triples, is second in the league with an .824 slugging percentage, and is fourth in the nation with 1.67 RBI per game. Langfels also leads the Colonels with nine home runs.

EKU has struggled on the road this year, though. The Colonels are 3-12 and batting just .285 away from Turkey Hughes Field. Senior Tyler Rehmel is the most effective Colonel on the road, batting .352 with 14 RBI away from home.

The RedHawks enter this week’s game with a record of 21-18 (11-7 MAC). They are paced offensively by Adam Eaton (.381 batting average) and Tommy Nurre (.377 batting average). Zak Hatfield, meanwhile, provides the power, leading Miami University with 10 home runs.
