RICHMOND, Ky. – The first of two opening ceremonies for Phase I of the Colonel Golf & Learning Center was held on Saturday. Today’s event was a special time for former golf team members to see the facility first hand. Sunday’s event is open to everyone and will begin at 2 p.m. The facility will open for business on Monday.
A large group of former EKU golf team members joined head coaches Pat and Joni Stephens for a day of golf, food and fellowship. After a morning of golf at Arlington, the group enjoyed lunch at the new CGLC where prizes were given to the winning teams from the morning’s golf tournament. Following lunch, the former Colonels were given the opportunity to be the first to use the new facility.
The CGLC brings golf instruction and teaching to the highest level in central Kentucky. Located next to Arlington Golf Club, the CGLC will provide golfers with some of the most current instructional aids in the golf market today.
More specifically, Phase I of the Colonel Golf and Learning Center offers: a golf shop, 7,000 sq. ft. putting green, 3,200 sq. ft. chipping /pitching green, two sand bunkers, short game area, two large teeing areas, Cool Range canopy for inclement weather and driving range building featuring indoor heated stalls for winter practice, indoor putting surface, two indoor video instruction rooms, golf fitness/exercise room, club repair, professional club fitting with Vector Pro Launch Monitor.
Phase I of the Colonel Golf and Learning Center (CGLC) is a joint venture between the EKU Foundation and local investors. As a result, the EKU men’s and women’s golf programs and the EKU PGA/Professional Golf Management Program will use the facility free of charge for practice and instruction.
Here is the schedule for the remaining grand opening events:
Sunday, June 14: Grand Opening for the Richmond community and businesses
2:00 to 5:00 p.m. – demo clubs from Powerbilt, Mizuno, Bridgestone Golf, Callaway and Srixon, and
free use of the facility during the opening.
Monday, June 15: Open for business.
