RICHMOND, Ky. – Former Eastern Kentucky University baseball player Josh Anderson was sent from the Detroit Tigers to the Kansas City Royals in exchange for cash on Thursday. Anderson was batting .242 with 16 RBI and 13 stolen bases this season for the Tigers.

The left-handed hitting outfielder is a career .283 hitter with three homers and 39 RBI with Houston, Atlanta and Detroit. He is expected to join the Royals on Friday in Tampa.

The 26-year old Anderson, a native of Eubank, Ky., was drafted in the fourth round of the 2003 MLB draft by the Houston Astros.

He was traded to the Atlanta Braves in 2007 and thrived in the Braves’ minor league system, hitting .314 at the triple-A level, including a club and international league single season record 27-game hitting streak, with 155 hits, 77 runs scored, 42 stolen bases and four triples.

As a Colonel, Anderson led Eastern to a runner-up finish in the 2003 Ohio Valley Conference Tournament in his final season, earning conference Player of the Year honors and becoming the school’s first-ever Louisville Slugger First Team All-American after leading the nation with 57 steals.
