RICHMOND, Ky. – Former Eastern Kentucky University football standout Yeremiah Bell was named to his first NFL Pro Bowl Monday afternoon. Bell has played the last six seasons as a defensive safety for the Miami Dolphins.

Bell, a native of Winchester, Ky., led Miami in tackles (114) and finished second on the team in interceptions (three) this past fall. In the season finale against Pittsburgh, Bell posted a team-high six tackles to go along with one interception. One of Bell’s best games of 2009 came against New Orleans when he tallied eight stops and 1.5 sacks of quarterback Drew Brees.

Bell, who played at EKU from 1999-2002, was a first team All-American in 2001 after he led the Colonels in tackles (86) and the OVC in interceptions (six). Against Eastern Illinois as a junior, the two-time All-OVC selection compiled 10 tackles, two interceptions of current Dallas Cowboys’ quarterback Tony Romo, a sack, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Bell did not suit up as a senior due to a knee injury he sustained prior to the beginning of the 2002 season.

This past fall, Bell was one of four defensive backs named to the EKU All-Century Football team.

The 2010 NFL Pro Bowl is set to be played this Sunday, Jan. 31, in South Florida beginning at 7:30 p.m.
