Round 1 Tee Times
DICKSON, Tenn. – Eastern Kentucky University’s quest for its third Ohio Valley Conference men’s golf championship in the last five years begins on Monday. The Colonels captured the title in 2006 and 2008, and have won the OVC championship 11 times, four more than any current conference member.
Eastern Kentucky will serve as the host of the three-day, 54-hole event, which will be contested at the par 72, 6,858-yard GreyStone Golf Club in Dickson, Tenn. Tee-times will begin at 9 a.m. ET each morning. On Monday, EKU will play alongside Murray State and Austin Peay in the third group of teams, which will begin play at 10:40 am. ET.
The participating teams include Austin Peay, Eastern Illinois, Eastern Kentucky, Jacksonville State, Morehead State, Murray State, Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech and UT Martin.
This is the 62nd Ohio Valley Conference men’s golf championship. Among current members of the league, EKU has 11 titles, Austin Peay has seven, Morehead State is a five-time winner, Tennessee Tech has won four championships, Murray State has three and Jacksonville State has two.
Austin Peay captured the 2009 championship by one shot over Murray State. Eastern Kentucky finished tied for third with Jacksonville State, 11 shots behind the winner.
This season, EKU has posted top 10 finishes in 10 of its 11 competitions. The Colonels captured the team title at the F&M Bank Austin Peay Intercollegiate in October. The team placed second at the Xavier Invitational. As a team, Eastern has posted the second best stroke average (294.3) in the OVC.
Freshman
Zack Butler led Eastern Kentucky and was fifth in the OVC in stroke average during the season, averaging 73.0 strokes per round, just 0.6 strokes behind the top average in the league. The freshman played in 11 total events (33 rounds) and had two top five and three top 10 finishes. He finished in the top 20 in seven of the team’s 11 events. Butler took home individual medalist honors in his first collegiate tournament, shooting a three-round total of 206 (-10) at the Wasiota Winds Fall Kickoff. He was selected as the OVC Golfer of the Week three times this season.
Sophomore
Brian Fister is second on the team with a 74.5 stroke average. He has two top 10 and a total of three top 20 finishes this season. Freshman
Jordan Cash finished third on the team, and 12th in the conference, with a 74.6 stroke average. He posted two top 20 finishes in 11 events and shot under par in five of 33 rounds.
