Strege Joins Men's Basketball Coaching Staff

RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University head men’s basketball coach Jeff Neubauer announced today that Luke Strege has joined the Colonel coaching staff for the upcoming 2010-11 season.

Strege spent the past six years on the staff at Quincy University in Quincy, Ill. Last season, Strege helped the Hawks finish 23-9 overall while climbing to as high as No. 10 in the Division II national polls. Quincy earned a spot in the 2010 NCAA Division II tournament and advanced to the Sweet 16 for the first time in school history. In 2007-08, Strege (pronounced STREGG-ee) was promoted to Quincy’s associate head coach.

“Luke is a young coach who I have known for several years,” Neubauer said. “He is passionate about winning as evidenced by his seven trips to the NCAA tournament in 10 years as a coach. His presence as a recruiter and basketball coach will be felt immediately. I’m proud of the first five years at EKU and hope Luke will be a force as we go forward.”

Strege began his collegiate coaching career in 2000-01 as a graduate assistant at the University of Georgia. He then spent two more years as a graduate assistant at Western Kentucky University (2001-03). Strege’s three seasons at Georgia and WKU resulted in three trips to the NCAA Division I tournament.

Before moving on to Quincy, Strege served the 2003-04 season as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Towson University in Baltimore, Md.

Strege was the director of operations and basketball assistant for the International Basketball Association’s Rochester Skeeters from June 1999 to March 2000. He was also the operations and basketball intern for the Continental Basketball Association’s LaCrosse Bobcats from October 1998 to May 1999.

Strege graduated from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse in 1999 with a bachelor’s degree in marketing.
