RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball head coach
Jeff Neubauer announced today that Mike DiNunno and Devin McDonald have transferred to EKU for the 2010-11 season.
DiNunno spent the prior two years at Northern Illinois University. The Chicago, Ill., native started 21 of 30 games for the Huskies in 2009-10 while averaging 7.0 points and 3.0 assists per game. DiNunno, a 5-11 guard, recorded his first career double-double with season highs in points (21) and assists (10) in NIU’s win over Western Michigan on Jan. 13.
“Mike is a very skilled guard who can score and distribute the ball at this level,” Neubauer said. “We are looking forward to working with him during his redshirt season and believe he will have a positive impact on EKU basketball.”
McDonald, a native of Houston, Texas played for the University of New Orleans last year. The 6-0 guard started the final 15 contests in 2009-10 and tallied a career-high 24 points in a win at Louisiana-Monroe on Feb. 18. McDonald averaged 8.3 ppg this past season while leading New Orleans in three-pointers made (46) and three-point shooting (38.7 percent).
“Devin is a proven Division I guard,” Neubauer said. “He has shown he can shoot from behind the arc at a very high rate.”
Due to NCAA transfer rules, DiNunno will have to sit out the 2010-11 season. However, McDonald will be able to play immediately because New Orleans is making the transition from Division I to Division III. DiNunno has two seasons of eligibility remaining while McDonald has one season left to play at EKU.
The Colonels concluded the 2009-10 season with a 20-13 overall record and tied for third in the Ohio Valley Conference. EKU advanced to the postseason for the second time in five years under Neubauer with an invitation to the College Basketball Invitational.
