Two Kentucky Natives Join EKU Softball Team

RICHMOND, Ky. – Two Kentucky natives will join the Eastern Kentucky University softball program, head coach Jane Worthington announced today. Christina Ciolek, a utility player from Richmond and Hannah Driver a pitcher from Hopkinsville will enter EKU as freshmen this fall.

Ciolek capped her career at Madison Central High School by being selected second team all-state. She hit .540 with three home runs, 36 RBIs and 50 runs scored in 2010. She helped the Indians capture the 44th District championship and advance to the semifinals of the 11th Region tournament. As a junior Ciolek earned honorable mention all-state recognition after hitting .486 with 12 stolen bases. She also earned all-region tournament honors and was chosen first team Academic All-State.

Ciolek graduated with a 4.0 grade-point average and was ranked 17th in a class of 456.

Driver helped Christian County High School capture four straight district and region championships. During her final four years CCHS posted a combined 142-23 record. Driver earned first team all-state honors as a junior and a senior. She was also a second team Academic All-State selection as a junior and a senior.

In 2010, Driver went 25-4 in the circle and hit .428 while leading Christian County to a 40-6 record and a fourth place finish in the state tournament. She earned a spot on the all-district and all-region tournament teams, was chosen as the second region player of the year, and was ranked as one of the top five players in the state by ihigh.com.

As a junior, Driver posted a 22-2 pitching record while helping her team to a 38-3 record.
