Barber Chosen As OVC Newcomer Of The Week For Fourth Time

Junior Jade Barber scored a career-high 24 points against UT Martin.
BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Eastern Kentucky University’s Jade Barber was unanimously selected as the adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week on Tuesday, the league announced from its Brentwood, Tenn., headquarters.  It is the fourth newcomer weekly award this season for the junior from Louisville, Ky.

In EKU’s only game of the week, scored a career-best 24 points on 10-for-12 shooting and a grabbed a game-best 10 rebounds against Tennessee-Martin.  It was her fifth double-double of the season.  Her previous career scoring high was 17 points earlier this season against Kentucky Christian.

The 6-foot-2 center is averaging 10.9 points and 6.9 rebounds this year.  She has the second best field goal percentage (62.4) in the OVC, ranks 10th in the league in rebounding and 16th in scoring.

Barber is playing her first season as a Lady Colonel.  She spent two seasons at Ball State University before transferring to EKU.

The Lady Colonels will step out of conference play on Wednesday to host Longwood University.  Tip-off at McBrayer Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m.
