RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University football player
Jeremy Caldwell has signed a free agent deal with the NFL’s St. Louis Rams.
Caldwell, a 5-10 defensive back/kick returner from Chattanooga, Tenn., was a four-year starter for the Colonels. As a senior, he recorded two interceptions and led the team with seven pass break-ups on the way to be named a finalist for the prestigious Buck Buchanan Award, which is handed out annually to the nation’s top NCAA FCS (Football Championships Subdivision) defensive player. Caldwell also returned a kick-off 88 yards for a touchdown in the win over Missouri State on Sept. 10.
For his collegiate career, Caldwell finished with 15 interceptions, three of which were returned for touchdowns, as well as touchdowns on three kick returns and one punt return. Caldwell tallied seven interceptions as a sophomore in 2009 to lead the Ohio Valley Conference and rank fourth nationally at the FCS level. In 2010, the two time first team All-OVC honoree set a new EKU single season record for kick-off return average (33.7 yards per return).
Eastern Kentucky kicks off the 2012 schedule at Purdue on Sept. 1.
