BRENTWOOD, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University senior women’s basketball player
Jade Barber has been named the adidas Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.
The honor comes on the heels of a dominant performance by Barber, who went for 21 points and 19 rebounds in EKU’s 62-52 win over in-state rival Morehead State on Saturday at McBrayer Arena. She also swatted three shots, came up with two steals and controlled the paint defensively as the Lady Colonels stifled the Eagles to just 33 percent shooting.
It was the seventh double-double of the season for Barber, and the 17th of her career. She is currently the only player in the OVC averaging a double-double on the season.
The native of Louisville leads the conference in rebounding (10.7 rpg) and blocked shots (2.1 bpg) and ranks second in field goal percentage (61.5). She is also seventh in the conference in scoring (13.9 ppg).
This is Barber’s first-career OVC Player of the Week honor. She was named the OVC Newcomer of the Week six times last year in her first season as a Lady Colonel.
Barber and the rest of the EKU women’s basketball team return to action this weekend with road matchups at Jacksonville State and Belmont.
