Jalen O'Bannon was named the Madness Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week, College Sports Madness announced today.
O'Bannon helped the Colonels to two wins last week, improving to 3-1 on the season. The Memphis, Tennessee native posted back-to-back double-double performances, helping EKU to wins over Miami (Ohio) University and East Tennessee State University.
The junior averaged 14.0 points-per-game and 14.0 rebounds-per-game in last week's wins, shooting 41 percent from the floor. She also tallied three steals along with one block in the two contests.
O'Bannon's 12 point, 12 rebound performance helped the Colonels to a comeback win in Oxford. In Friday's 23-point victory over ETSU, O'Bannon pulled down 12 defensive rebounds and added four offensive boards in the win to go with 16 points.
Among the best in the nation, O'Bannon ranks 17th in rebounds per game (11.3) and 22nd in offensive rebounds per game (5.0).
College Sports Madness "identifies the players who have had the greatest impact to their team from each conference and on a national basis each Monday."
Eastern Kentucky (3-1) returns to action Thursday as it takes on Cincinnati Christian University at McBrayer Arena. Thursday's contest is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
