BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Junior forward
Jalen O'Bannon hauled in Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week honors for an Eastern Kentucky University program record eighth time, the league announced Tuesday.
O'Bannon, a native of Memphis, Tennessee, logged 15 points and 12 rebounds to help the Colonels complete the season sweep of the defending OVC Tournament Champions, Tennessee State on Saturday.
O'Bannon ranks fifth in the OVC in scoring (17.3 points-per-game), leads the league in rebounding (10.1 rebounds-per-game) and is currently fourth in field goal percentage (52 percent).
She ranks 16th in the nation with 13 double-doubles on the season and currently ranks 29th among all players in rebounding.
Tatiano Concercao (Southeast Missouri State) collected nine OVC Newcomer awards, marking the most by any player since the award began during the 1985-86 season.
The Colonels (13-10, 7-5 OVC) travel to Jacksonville State to take on the Gamecocks on Wednesday. Wednesday's game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
