Jalen O'Bannon was selected as co-Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. This week's selection marks the seventh OVC Newcomer award of the season for O'Bannon, tying Crystal Jones (2006-07) for the most selections for a Colonel.
In EKU's past two games, O'Bannon racked up 36 points, 23 rebounds, 11 assists and six steals, helping the Colonels to a 100-93 overtime win against Morehead State on Saturday.
O'Bannon leads the OVC with 10 double-doubles on the year, good for 23
rd in the country and ranks among the league's top-10 in seven different statistical categories.
The Memphis, Tennessee native has scored in double figures in 19 of Eastern's 20 games this season. O'Bannon leads the OVC with 9.9 rebounds-per-game and ranks second in field goal percentage, shooting 52.7 percent. Her 17.0 points-per-game ranks fifth in the conference, while rounding out the top-10 with 1.15 blocks-per-game.
Tatiano Concercao (Southeast Missouri State) collected nine OVC Newcomer awards, marking the most by any player since the award began during the 1985-86 season.
The Colonels (11-9, 5-4 OVC) travel to Tennessee State on Wednesday for a noon tip.
