BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Junior Jalen O'Bannon was voted the Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the week for a league record-tying ninth time, the OVC office announced on Tuesday.
 
This week's nomination ties the conference record of nine Newcomer of the Week awards set by Southeast Missouri State's Tatiano Concerao during the 2004-05 season, marking the most since the award's inception in the 1985-86 season.
 
O'Bannon broke EKU's program record of seven last week set by Crystal Jones during the 2006-07 season.
 
The Memphis, Tennessee native averaged 18.5 points-per-game and seven rebounds-per-game and added four assists and three blocks in EKU's wins over Jacksonville State and Morehead State last week. She connected on 13-of-27 (48 percent) from the field and 11-of-13 (85 percent) from the line in last week's contests.
 
O'Bannon finished with 28 points against Jacksonville State, two points shy of a career-high.
 
Belmont visits McBrayer Arena on Wednesday, as EKU will recognize its seniors. The Colonels then travel to square off against Tennessee Tech on Saturday. 

The Colonels clinched a berth in the conference tournament in Nashville and will conclude regular season play this week.
