BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Eastern Kentucky University junior
Haley Yost has been named the Ohio Valley Conference Co-Female Track Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday.
Yost vaulted to the top of the OVC with a personal-best 4:49.17 in the women's mile on Friday at the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa. That time is the fifth-fastest indoor mile time in EKU history and the fastest since Lyida Kosgei went 4:45.5 in 2012.
It will likely make Yost the favorite to win the mile at the OVC Indoor Championships, which will be held February 24-25 in Charleston, Illinois. She finished fifth in the mile (4:57.8) at last year's indoor championships.
It is Yost's first-career OVC Track Athlete of the Week honor. The native of New Tripoli, Pennsylvania shares this week's award with Tennessee State sprinter Amber Huges.
Yost and the Colonels have this weekend off in preparation for the OVC Indoor Championships.
